Knoxville, Tenn. pro Ott DeFoe inked an endorsement deal recently with Tabu Tackle.

“A while back, Dave Lefebre showed me Tabu’s jigs and he gave me some to use,” Defoe said. “Once I used that jig I saw that it’s completely, totally better than anything else I’ve used. I use it for swimming, pitching, casting. It’s the only jig I use anymore.”

And because Tabu’s a tackle company owned and operated by pros, the 24-year-old Defoe values the new relationship for its learning potential as well. Along with Lefebre, he’ll be able to learn from Tabu pros like Anthony Gagliardi and Kelly Jordon. “I’m very proud to be asked to be a part of it,” he said.

> Although Defoe has had a few struggles this season – he’s 55th in the FLW Tour points – he doesn’t need to sweat a Forrest Wood Cup berth next week at Guntersville. He qualified for the Cup last year through the Stren Championship, where he was the highest finisher out of the Northern Strens. He fished the Northerns because they lined up well with the Tour schedule, but he did note it was a little easier to make the Cup “backwards,” since he was fishing against northern sticks during a southern championship at Pickwick.

Tabu Team member, Dave Lefebre weighed in a 7lb 2oz. Largemouth Bass on day 2 of the FLW Series event on Lake Champlain, Sept. 10-13. The fish, which was the big bass of the tournament, was caught on a prototype Tabu Super Finesse Series Jig. This jig series is scheduled to hit the market sometime early next season. “I had just received the first 3 samples of the “SF” Series a couples days before we left for Champlain. I wasn’t really supposed to use them yet, but I couldn’t resist. It was unbelievable to catch a fish like that the first time I tried one of the new jigs.” That fish was actually the biggest northern largemouth Dave’s ever caught in a tournament, what a hawg! A sneak peek of the new jig can be seen at Davelefebre.com, click here.

But the biggest win for Team Tabu so far for 2008 is Fred Roumbanis’s victory at Lake Murray, SC. Fred conquered the BASS Elite Series field with a 4 day total of 20 bass weighing in at 66-13. Fred sits in 9th place in the BASS AOY race with 5 events to go. Great job Freddy, keep catching ‘em!!! (Read Story)
